ABOUT FACE: Votives and video

About Face: votives and video 71 intimate hand drawn votives and a selection of current and past video will be on view at the Susan Calza Gallery, 138 Main St., Montpelier. This work is Calza’s newest since ”Enough Said? counting Mass Shootings” which took place for the last 6 months of 2023. The individual pen and ink drawn faces on each of the 71 votive candles reflects an attitude, posses a question or suggests a situation. These are in effect offerings. They refect who we are, what we might cherish or grapple with. They are a road map to what makes us human. Here, we face ourselves and the many other selves we inhabit.

The selected videos in the exhibition explore beauty and vulnerability through her textured and personal approach to film making. Her stark and poignant images resonate throughout. Her voice is a grounding element in these short films.

This installation is on view from 6-8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays until June. It is best seen at night but visits to the gallery are available upon request:
